WNV is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito.
Where Was West Nile Virus Confirmed?
WNV was confirmed in mosquitoes in Putnam County on August 26, 2024.
This is the first time WNV has been confirmed in Putnam County this year.
What are the Symptoms of West Nile Virus?
Most people who are infected with WNV do not develop any symptoms.
However, some people may develop mild symptoms, such as fever, headache, body aches, and nausea.
In rare cases, WNV can cause severe illness, such as encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) or meningitis (inflammation of the spinal cord).

There is no vaccine to prevent WNV.
